Moya Beats Croatia Open Champion
Four-times former winner Carlos Moya beat last year's champion Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 6-3 6-2 to reach the second round of the Croatia Open on Tuesday.
The sixth-seeded Spaniard was one of four seeds to secure their place in the second round on the second day of the tournament.
His compatriot David Ferrer, the fourth seed, defeated another Spaniard Albert Montanes 6-2 6-2, while fifth-seeded Guillermo Canas from Argentina secured passage by beating Croat Roko Karanusic 6-3 6-3.
Italy's Filippo Volandri also easily overcame Loukas Dlouhy from the Czech Republic 6-2 6-1.
The only seeded player to depart on Tuesday was Serb Janko Tipsarevic who had to retire after just two games against Victor Hanescu of Romania because of a painful knee.
