Hello all,
This is my first post in the Croatia Official Forum. I plan on traveling to your beautiful country within the next year. Of course, the Dalmation coastline appears spectacular in the photos I've seen after doing some homework on Croatia for a while now. And yes, Dalmatia region is definitely on the must-see checklist to visit. But lately, I watched an incredible Nat Geo documentary about the natural landscape further inland. It was titled "Land of the Falling Lakes". I would love to hike and explore the waterfalls, lakes and ancient forests of this country. Can anyone help provide any maps of trailheads with routes throughout the natural wilderness of Croatia? My trek may originate from any town, village or even the capital city. I'm also aware that there's been some concern about some places in the countryside regarding safety, like specific areas out in the 'sticks' (so-to-speak) that are questionable because of potential explosive land-mines in some locations that have remained unaccounted after the war in the 90's. Lastly, what are the regulations about camping (Yes, this includes building a campfire) in the countryside and forests? I'm very careful not to tresspass on any private property of any kind. That's common sense. But what is the Croatian law about this matter? Can I hike, bike and build a campsite anywhere in the wilderness, as long it's outside of personal property? Any gentle, sane and productive responsive advice will be appeciated. ![]() |
