Guinness confirms world´s largest painting in Croatia

A painting measured 10,370 square meters created by a Croatian painter entered the Guinness World Records on Wednesday as the largest painting in the world, said reports reaching here from Croatia.

The painting, which is entitled "Val (Wave)" by painter Djuka Siroglavic, is 6,100-meter long and 1.7-meter high, the Croatian news agency HINA reported, adding that it will be on display at the airport on the southern Adriatic island of Brac until Sept. 1,after which it will be sold by meter.

Siroglavic said that it took him five months to finish the artwork.

The price of one meter of the painting will be 1,600 kuna (some304 U.S. dollars) plus value-added tax. Thirty percent of the proceeds will go to the children of Croatian soldiers killed in the 1991-1995 war of independence, while proceeds from the sale of200 meters of the painting will be used to help the defense of Croatian army generals Ante Gotovina and Mirko Norac, who are under trial in the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, the painter said.

The previous record was held by Swedish artist David Aberg, whose painting "Mother Earth" unveiled in 2006 covers nearly 8,000square meters.
