Croatia makes a comeback in Austrians' vacation plans
Austrian National Travel Agency Group official Martin Bachlechner says that the surprise development in Austrians' summer-vacation planning is Croatia's comeback.
Bookings for trips there from April through September are up by 26 per cent over last year.
The increase, however, only leaves that country in 10th place among Austrians' summer destinations.
Another winner is Egypt, for which bookings are up by 34 per cent, putting it in fifth place just behind Italy in fourth place.
Greece remains the top destination, with 17 per cent of overall bookings. Turkey is in second place, and Spain is in third place.
A third of Austrians will reportedly go on summer trips lasting five-to-ten days, a third on those lasting 13-to-15 days and a third on trips 22 days or longer.
Bachlechner cautions, however, that it is still too early to discuss trends for summer vacations with assurance.
Austrians booking summer trips before the end of March will frequently be able to do so at a discount, saving up to 100 Euros compared to later bookings.
