Balearics top for web-savvy travellers

More UK holidaymakers searched for online information on the Balearic Islands than other destinations in June, according to new research.

A study released by holiday home rental firm Holidaylettings.co.uk shows that web searches for the Balearics ranked first above those in Australia, Malta and Germany during the month on its site.

Countries such as Croatia, Thailand, Greece and Italy were also listed in the top ten holiday home searches on the website.

However, the research additionally found that increasing numbers of travellers are looking to more exotic and adventurous locations for their next holiday, said Ross Elder of Holidaylettings.co.uk.

"As more and more people look to the internet to find a holiday bargain, there is a mix of family favourite destinations and an increasing bravery to explore new locations such as Egypt and Morocco that were once dominated by hotels and travel packages or deemed accessible only to the wealthier amongst us," he commented.

Popular holiday destinations within the Balearics include Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca.
